Unboxing Humans
Unboxing Humans was a thought-provoking and socially engaged video project that explored the relationship between the individual and the community. It sought to ask the fundamental question of how individuals would like to be seen and defined by society. One of the main challenges addressed was the societal tendency to define physically disabled people solely through their disabilities, placing them in restrictive boxes that do not align with their true potential.
The project recognized that the desire to be defined by one's abilities, personality, and capabilities is universal, transcending backgrounds, cultures, and socio-economic situations. It aimed to promote a collective understanding that individuals, regardless of their circumstances, yearn to be seen in a way that does justice to their capacities.
Commissioned by the esteemed Finnish Association of People with Physical Disabilities, Unboxing Humans emerged as a powerful and collaborative artistic endeavor. Through immersive video narratives, it dismantled stereotypes, fostered empathy, and sparked meaningful dialogue within society. By challenging preconceived notions and advocating for the recognition of individual capacities, the project represented a significant step towards cultivating a more inclusive and understanding world.
